The Forager’s Daughter Tarot is a collection of 83 uniquely illustrated cards, featuring motifs and narratives found in the flora and fauna around us. Each card articulates new and individual compositions to share a piece of the story of the Fool’s journey as described by the Rider Waite Tarot with my own personal mythologies strewn in. A style inspired by the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements, North American colloquial art, Medieval tapestry, and naturalist illustration ties the cards together in beautiful and delicate harmony.
Afterlight is a term coined in the 1800s. It describes two things; the time of twilight just as the sun is setting before nightfall (the golden hour), and the idea of retrospect. This edition of the deck was a chance for me to look back at my previous work and honor those humble beginnings while using new skills to refresh some of the design elements. The dusky purple alongside the gold gilt edges encompasses that magical twilight hour where the waking and sleeping worlds overlap. It was the perfect descriptive word and I’m so excited to share it with you.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT THE AFTERLIGHT EDITION?
Much thought and care went into the creation of this deck. The imagery in the cards remains detailed, intuitive, and layered in its meanings. The Afterlight Edition includes more cohesive design elements created to make the Forager’s Daughter Tarot a complete and truly unique tool for reflection.
The Afterlight Edition includes the following updates:
- New card backing design
- New border design for card faces
- 5 additional cards added to the major arcana (total of 83)
- Updated magnetic clamshell box
- Gold gilt edges on the cards
- Updated guidebook cover (and inclusion of additional cards)
While there are so many exciting updates in this edition, there are a few things that were important to keep from the original:
- Same 78 original card designs
- 350gsm cardstock, sturdy enough for everyday use but flexible enough for riffle shuffling
- Soft linen finish on the cards
- Guidebook includes full card descriptions, including upright and reversal keywords
